Love Is Not Moody

“I’m in the mood for love…” goes this popular love song from ages ago. What does it mean exactly? Will my moods determine how much or how less my love is?

The strange brooding and melodrama in our “emo” generation has much to do with our misunderstanding of emotions. Yes, we clearly need to feel what we know, and know what we feel. However, moods swing. Unpredictable, moods will swing us to betterment or disappointment.

Love is not moody, which means it is not tossed around, without direction. Love is, in fact, reasonable. It does not act without will, nor will it waver in crisis. Love is steady and planted on solid ground —truth. Yes, this person hurt you or this circumstance was immensely painful, but what does that have to do with my devotion? The distinction must be made that love involves all the senses, not partial to moods or what some call ‘chemical reactions’.

Love is not chemical or biological. It is much more mysterious than any social experiment man can think of. Love is from the mind and heart of God who in His mystery made the best decision for us, regardless of the agony and the ecstasy.

“Dear God, open the eyes of my heart to the truth of love. May I grow a love that is firm and steadfast, unwavering in its devotion. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
