Love Believes
Magic shows, circus acts, and Santa Claus always evoked wonder and amazement. Children are the best in their facial reactions and opinions on these. Even grown ups love seeing that slight of hand, or giggle in receiving a present they weren’t expecting.
Belief is a funny thing. It reveals so much in us we do not acknowledge right away. It reveals the simple truth that we are very much like children, very capable of being in awe. And just like children, we are capable of believing —in someone or something bigger than us. Whether that is through a personal experience, or astonishment by the massive universe we live in, or even sheer disbelief or trauma, our hearts will never be the same.
Love does not need to see in order to believe. But belief allows us to see what love sees, beyond the surface, between the lines, and behind what seems obvious. There is a mystery to love much like the magic tricks or the circus hi-jinks. And the mystery excites us more when we believe. Love draws us closer when there is faith; not fully knowing, but fully diving in.
How does your love believe?
“Father in heaven, I do not know yet what love will bring me sometimes. All I know is that I am called to love. I pray I find faith that will allow me to dive deeper, to love stronger. In Christ, I pray. Amen.”
