Love Bears Our Burdens

Some say that love makes us “weak in the knees, can hardly speak, losing all control”. I guess if we romanticize love in every popular song or tome we will feel all these things. But again, love is a decision. And a tough one to make. Especially when it requires sacrifice and a willingness to carry on even when there’s no strength left.

The key is willingness or WILL. Yes, strength may fade, wearing us down. But the will to NOT get tired or weary proves stronger especially when love is devoted.

Love takes two. And sometimes the struggling one needs to be carried piggyback so the journey and growth continues. Sometimes, it takes a small acknowledgment of one’s circumstance; attention to details. Journeying takes time and effort, pacing and patience, and sometimes requires extraordinary measures.

Bearing the burden of another is not saving them from their misery. Rather, it is participating in their grief or crisis, just so they are not alone. This gives them added strength, and stirs in a (kindred) compassion for others. Love is paying it forward. This means I share in your joys, and in your sorrows.

“God of mercy, help ease the burdens of my loved ones, in any way you see fit. Call upon me to assist you in making this happen in any way I can. In every way, be my guide and strength —all for love. In Jesus. Amen.”
